In fall 2021, Vernon Senior Secondary (VSS) students in Jason Preston's design and drafting class undertook a project to design a potential park on the Pottery Road site. The school is located just a couple blocks away from the Pottery Road site, allowing them to make walking trips to survey the location.
The students were basically given a clean slate on which to develop a proposed park. Certainly, the most important objective is that the park service the community. Common themes among the proposals were: minimal impact on the environment, multi-use, accessibility and the use of green technologies.
The recurring elements in the students' innovative designs are: tennis and pickleball courts (none currently in East Hill), a cafe, and a playground. Also included are: a dog park, an outdoor amphi-theatre, sports fields, and community gardens. Thought was also given to on-going maintenance of the facilities.
Here are the designs:
We would like to thank the VSS students for their excellent designs. Hopefully, as you look these over you can see the potential for the Park at Pottery Road.
